UK to sing fifth on Saturday – full running order released

The UK has been given fifth place in the running order of Saturday’s Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s another example of a so-so placing for the UK, after last year’s very last position and Engelbert Humperdinck singing very early.

The full list is below. Traditionally the running order was decided by a draw, but now the only random element is whether a country will be in the first or second half, and once that has been established the show’s producers decide on the running order, a decision which is not without controversy.

Belgium’s ballad is likely to suffer coming right after Australia’s barnstorming rock song, and France is surely not happy with the dreaded 2nd slot, from which no country has ever won.

The full list is below.

1 Slovenia
2 France
3 Israel
4 Estonia
5 United Kingdom
6 Armenia
7 Lithuania
8 Serbia
9 Norway
10 Sweden
11 Cyprus

My first Eurovision memory is watching the nervous Doireann Ní Bhriain present the 1981 contest from Dublin where of course Bucks Fizz won. So yes, I'm no spring chicken.
