It was announced last week that Australia will be taking part in the 2015 Eurovision song contest held in Vienna, Austria, EUROPE! Yes that’s right after years of lobbying by television station SBS and despite being nearly 20,000 miles away our friends down under will have a one-off entry in May. The contest rules will remain much the same although Australia have qualified straight to the final and will be allowed to vote in both semi-finals, as well as the grand final. Should Australia’s act win, next year’s show will be held in a European city and Australia will be allowed to defend its title.
The reaction on social media pages to these strange turn of events has been mixed, with many voicing their concern:
#AustraliaEurovision how is that possible?!!!

Whilst some believe the United Kingdom might perform better when the points are dished out later in the evening or afternoon (if you are in Australia!)

Identical twins ‘The Veronicas’, who hail from Brisbane and earned an Australian ARIA certification of 2x platinum for more than 140,000 sales for their album Hook Me Up, posted a teasing tweet suggesting they would like to perform at the 60th anniversary show. Yet the question mark over who will represent Australia in May looms large. An internal decision by SBS and its Eurovision production partner Blink TV Australia is due to be released by the first week of March. Many are demanding superstar Kylie Minogue represents her country but she appears to have distanced herself from the running.
